I was quite surprised to find that it is only doing about 1750 rpm at 80mph, no wonder it will cruise at 180kph. What's that fuel consumption in old money Gizze?

I am well impressed with the 535d, if you can get one cheap monkey, go for it.
31.7mpg I got over the whole trip.
The 535d is amazing when it is crusing at 89mph, it sits at 2100rpm and returns 38mpg all day long.

On my old E39, the headlights were definitely for RHD as they gave extra light (higher) on the kerb side. If you moved the levers, the light was cut off horizontally, thereby making it 'safe' for LHD or RHD.

I don't know if the set-up is still the same, it could be that LHD and RHD lamps are still different.
