The 535d is amazing when it is crusing at 89mph, it sits at 2100rpm and returns 38mpg all day long.

On my old E39, the headlights were definitely for RHD as they gave extra light (higher) on the kerb side. If you moved the levers, the light was cut off horizontally, thereby making it 'safe' for LHD or RHD.
I don't know if the set-up is still the same, it could be that LHD and RHD lamps are still different.
