Ok kiddies, I believe I am getting out of the 2004 545i into a 2005 545i (please, no comments about waiting for a 550, not gonna happen at this point)... My original thoughts we that I liked the Silver Grey. I saw a Titanium Grey though, and feel it is much richer looking all around.. maybe it was the lighting? the silver grey is more sport, more rugged looking on the 5, in my opinion...

Need all of your perpectives

Now, Seats. I was adimant that I wanted Comfort seats, coming from Sport seats.. I had the chance to sit in them today.. my opinion - they are just OK, for an upgrade of $1200. Nice headrests, but the rest of the seat wasn't all that much better, if at all. I found the bottom seat a bit short, and I am only 5'7".. The backrest is a bit more comfortable, but not that much more, and back to the bottom seat, I found it poking my legs, just as the side bolster do on the sport seat..

any comments here please?

thanks.

I've NEVER been interested in a silver car, but the Silver Gray is very attractive on this car. I love my Silver Gray / black 545i. The comments I get from people who see it is that the color gives it a certain "elegance" in a somewhat "understated" way, which suits me perfectly. $60,000+ cars are somewhat rare in my circles, and understated works well for me.

Holy cow... it shouldn't be this hard...

so tonight, I went back to the dealership, do some credit stuff. I called him first, told him to go with the Silver grey, but that is a dealer swap, and I could have it tomorrow, probably. the Tit. grey is incoming to VPC, about 2-3 weeks.

So the sun starts to set, and darker it gets outside.. I keep staring at the two cars. This was a bad move on my part, because the Tit. Grey under the lights of the dealership looked 10 times better than the silver grey. .something about the lights made the silver grey less glamorous. The Tit. grey, IMO, can be described as "Graphite"... just a smooth, clean metallic graphite.. it looked awesome..

So, i'm kicking myself, figuring I made a mistake.. I asked the salesperson who sees these cars every day in every different light and setting. He says he wouldn't get the silver grey personally, even though he could close the paperwork tomorrow... However, he did say that he and many others see a greenish tint to the tit. grey, which was not at all present in these lights.

I don't want to spaz out over this color, if in fact the lights made some magic. on the flip side, the silver grey looked very weak in the light..

So, in a nutshell, I thought i liked the tit. grey a little better in the daytime, and a crapload more in the evening HALO lights... but I am afraid that both were atificial if you you can imagine that.

I looked at the galleries here, and again, some pic's make silver grey look awesome, others dont. same with the other one.. I am coming from jet black, which I would prefer to have a different color, even though I think it still looks incredible.

Guys, I'm counting on you to steer me in the right direction (no pun intended)

Color is a very subjective thing...like what's your favorite wax...or position...

I have silver gray and love it. Not too dark to be high maintenance, but dark enough to highlight the lines of the car. You can get lazy and go for a while without a wash and it doesn't really show it, yet it's still gratifying after a detail. I read somewhere that they developed silver gray specifically for the E60. Titanium gray was bordering on too dark (read high maintenance) for me, and in certain lighting it has a greenish hue, which I didn't want. Silver gray has a slight bluish hue in bright sunlight. It's a very elegant--and at the same time sporty--color.

After I bought my car, the sales guy mentioned that he lost a few sales on ordered cars in titanium gray because the prospective owners didn't like the greenish hue, so he discourages people from ordering it if they haven't seen it in person.

Herein lies one of my issues. I didn't see ANY greenish hue, and i think that is because of the lights the cars were under. Conversely, the silver grey look BLAH! under the same lights.. 6 months ago, when I bought the jet black, i actually bought a silver grey, it was in detailing after I signed the paperwork, and I switched to black.. Black takes the cake, in my opinion, but Jet Black.. the wind blows, and the scratches show through.

arghhh!

OK.......I have Titanium Gray II with Auburn Comfort Seats.......so there's my recomendation.

I have ALWAYS had second thoughts with my other cars months down the line and thought that if I were to get another one I would get another exterior and/or interior color. However, this is the first time in my life that if I were to order a new E60 now it would be the exact same color combo. I love Titanium Gray II and I am very impressed/pleased/relieved with Auburn. I though it would be too orangy, but it's not.

Some more comments about Titanium Gray and Silver Gray:

Just like all of us here the first official pictures of the E60 that I saw was of the Silver Gray car. I loved that color in the pictures. Then in May of 2003 I was at the Cannes Film Festival for work and BMW had sent about a dozen or more pre-production E60 530's there for the world premier. They were all Silver Gray with type 124 wheels and Shadowline trim. Again, after seeing it in person I loved that color even more. After the E60's started arriving here in the states I saw more and more Silver Gray's and I did not think that they were as nice as I had previously thought. One big problem is that most of them did not have the sports pack which meant no Shadowline trim, which in my opinion makes a HUGE difference in the look. It does so in all colors, but for some reason even more with the Silver Gray. I don't think that Silver Gray looks good with chrome trim.

At that time I saw one of the early production E60 Titanium Gray's, which WAS NOT Titanium Gray II, just the original Titanium Gray (I). I liked it a lot but thought that it had a greenish tint in certain lighting, which I did not like. After a few months of trying to decide which color I liked BMW changed the Titanium Gray to titanium Gray II, which had almost NONE of the green tint that I did not like. So I kept going to different dealers at different times of day in order to see what it looked like in all lighting conditions......and that did it.....I was sure that out of the stock E60 colors I like the Titanium Gray II best (I still tried ordering the Stratus Gray as special order, but as usual BMW NA said no).

So to summerize.......I would still get Titanium Gray II if I were to do it again.......If you get the Silver Gray I would recommend the Sports package so that it would come with Shadowline instead of chrome window trim.

Here are a couple of links with pictures of my car:
