Reseat all your bulbs and check for play. Happened on my 01 X5 tail. kept coming on with a bump and so forth. Checked all electrical and was good. lastly I checked for play and found some. So i took some thin electrical tape and wrapped the upper part of the metal seat on the bulb. After sticking back in, no troubles. The plastic holders seem to get hot and after so many years they tend to expand.

And I just hit 100K. Isn't that something. I don't have the msg but........needed an excuse. Have to check the records. Then again my friend (BMW Tech) owned the car before me so chances are he replaced when the bulletin hit the shop. He used to come in handy. Too bad BMWNA now has them do all their coding etc from a streaming server.....

So I went to the dealer and they said my car had no campaigns scheduled. I called BMWNA and gave them my VIN and they said the same thing, according to my VIN my car was not under the recall issued for the airbag........

This happens more times than not - if you find an intermittent bulb failure it may be this or some corrosion on the bulb contact base or in the socket. In the latter case the problem seems to go away after removing and reinstalling the bulb. If this is a problem a more permanent fix is to remove any traces of corrosion with a pencil eraser and use a special bulb dielectric grease to lightly coat the contacts of the bulb to inhibit any further corrosion forming.
