4. I was surprised to find that the NAV, stereo, etc. is controlled with a system which is clearly the predecessor to iDrive.? Instead of the iDrive knob that we've become accustomed to, it's a small knob on the right side of the NAV screen.? I guess this is nothing new to those who have owned e39's.

5. I miss active steering.?

6. Clutch engagement is much better than the e60.? Travel is much shorter and there is no CDV.? Also, there is no "chatter" when declutching at low engine speeds.

7. M-Audio is nice, but a notch below Logic 7.

8. Fuel consumption is going to be horrendous.? The OBC is telling me 11.8 mpg for my first 30-mile round trip commute.? :....
Althought I enjoy my E39 M5 for 4 yrs now and enjoyed every minute of it. Unfortunately time has changed and the E39 is left behind in time . For the most part, I would consider your move a downgrade. The E60 benefits from 7 additional of R& D and it centainly shows. The M Audio in the E39 M5 is not even in the same world of the Logic-7.

I agree that an M cars will always be an M car 30 yrs from now. And that would be the only reason to get the E39 M5 IMO. I hope that is the reason why you made the change.

cheers,

beewang

Nooooooooooooooo whos M5 is it? Theres only a limited amount on the island... are they from m5board.com?

MAN!!! what color and what interior? Premium Sound? Sunshades? Fold Seats? Those are really the only 3 options. Thats awesome. You'll love the E39 M5. But I do prefer the E60 looks more.

P.S. alohalc is going to be sad... speaking of which... where is that guy?

I didn't take pictures of the interior, it was getting too dark. The interior is basically flawless, except for a broken driver-side cupholder. Oh yes, that's one more thing the e60 has on the e39 - believe it or not, better cupholders.

The interior is extended black leather with bruyere wood trim and alcantara headliner. I don't think the rear seats were used much, if at all.

Nice ride, M will always be a M. But if you ask me I would still choose the E60 because I have just spent 6 years with the E39 and 2 months with the E60, well the fresh feeling still lye with the E60.

Conrats!

Very very clean and nice looking car

I had a Carbonblack M5 E39 and it was a joy to drive. The exhaust sound ( with Eisenmann mufflers ) was actually better than that of my M5 E60

The steering of the E39 was the thing I disliked the most though

Enjoy it! If it?s any comfort - the M5 E60 is even more thirsty!

I brave move, I must say.

You just must love the 5 litre V8 with 400 bhp and 500 newton-meters of torgue.

I'm just reading a original BMW brouchure printed 1998 and realize that you do not have the original wheels on your auto.

The M5, or any M is an classic, but then you have to keep it mint and original, in my meaning
