Well, I've had my e60 for only 4 months, and have enjoyed it. A few minor irritations (squeaks and rattles) but overall a great car. The only car that is more appealing to me that fits both my lifestyle and wallet, is the e39 M5.

I'll be picking up a pristine silver 2001 M5 tomorrow, trading in my e60. I'll be getting a little over $4k back on the deal and will save all the sales tax (since it will be trade, about $1800). I'll use some of the money to buy a robust aftermarket warranty to give me peace of mind - these cars are expensive to fix. Both Carfax and dealer service history were clean - only an 02 sensor and clutch were replaced. M5 has 35k miles, and has a Dinan chip which improves throttle response and removes the rev limiter.

It's been a nice, but short, stint with the e60. This board has been very helpful and courteous. Best of luck with your cars!

Nooooooooooooooo whos M5 is it? Theres only a limited amount on the island... are they from m5board.com?

MAN!!! what color and what interior? Premium Sound? Sunshades? Fold Seats? Those are really the only 3 options. Thats awesome. You'll love the E39 M5. But I do prefer the E60 looks more.

P.S. alohalc is going to be sad... speaking of which... where is that guy?

Yep...great choice. An M will always be an M. And the e39 M5 was before the e60 M5 came out my favorite car.

Well, I picked up my e39 M5 last night. It really is a very different car from the e60. My initial observations:

1. Throttle response is MUCH quicker. Part of this is the Dinan software, and part of it is the DBW settings in the e60 which results in a small lag in throttle response.

2. Exhaust note is much more aggressive. The engine roars at startup, rumbles ominously on idle, and sounds unbelievable at WOT. The 545i was quite docile by comparison.

3. Acceleration, as expected, is significantly quicker. Anything north of 4k will throw you back in your seat.

4. I was surprised to find that the NAV, stereo, etc. is controlled with a system which is clearly the predecessor to iDrive. Instead of the iDrive knob that we've become accustomed to, it's a small knob on the right side of the NAV screen. I guess this is nothing new to those who have owned e39's.

5. I miss active steering.

6. Clutch engagement is much better than the e60. Travel is much shorter and there is no CDV. Also, there is no "chatter" when declutching at low engine speeds.

7. M-Audio is nice, but a notch below Logic 7.

8. Fuel consumption is going to be horrendous. The OBC is telling me 11.8 mpg for my first 30-mile round trip commute.

Anyway, here are a couple of quick pictures I took today:

That will be my choice too for "hobby car". I will not be able to drive that normal 800 km a week (when in Finalnd) whit that car and these gas prizes!

I know You will miss E60, but same time enjoy Your new ride!
