According to an article in a magazine issued by the Norwegian equivalent of AAA, the leather provided in most leather interiors and leather seats today, are rarely completely made up of leather.
Their article stated that the 5series (E39 or E60 - the article didn't say) with leather seats aren't equipped with full leather seats - leather is supposedly fitted only in the center of the seat and the center of the seatback - the sides are all covered in some sort of PVC-material.
The article also said that this was the case with almost all luxury cars today, Audi, Volvo, MB, Jaguar - none of their basic leather seats were completely in natural leather.
Does anyone know what the case is with the E60?

well i dont know about E60. but for sure MB used that kind of thing. on C class, if you nor order with leather, the car will comes with part leather part pvc. the center part of the seat is made of leather, but the side is made of pvc.
dont know about E60, but i like the leather on E60 much better than on E class. E60's leather feel soft. BMW uses new kinds of leather i think for this car. I have 3 series with leather (2001). The leather wasnt like this when new. It much more like E class (now)'s leather.
