Leaking oil.
Anybody know what this is? Bought a 2005 530i and never really got to S problem but whenever I was changing my oil I noticed oil was everywhere under the transmission and a bunch of other things.
Here are some pictures of it.
(P.s I have a vaccum leak that sounds like it's coming from the intake manifold/under the engine)
Also not sure about this but whenever I rev the engine it whistles. Like a turbo almost. And I have a couple of friends that have the same car just different years that have the same exhaust setup as I do but there's stays a constant nice sound. Mine has the sound you would expect but after 2500 Rpm it whistles.
Thanks for any advice on how to fix any of these problems!

Hi
usually your engine leaks are from the oil filter gasket or rockercover
if the oil leak has been around for a while it can run back around your transmission housing
otherwise its a rear main engine seal and you will see it leaking out of the transmission inspection hole in the photo you supplied, which means the transmission will need to be removed to change it

or it could be the valve cover leaking. I would do a visual check to see if oil is leaking from the top. Clean it real good with brake cleaner and keep watch. You definitely do not want it to be the main seal.

hi,
i also have a BMW 530i with M54. Mine is 2004.
Lately, it have been more noticeable leak with drip to the ground and while searching for forums, it can be 3 common areas-
1. Engine Oil Filter Gasket - 11 42 1 719 855
2. Engine Valve Cover Gasket - 11 12 0 030 496
3. Engine Oil Pan Gasket - 11 13 1 437 237
I plan to replace all three gaskets, and maybe my spark plugs during my next oil change.
My question is - are there any other parts or components i may need while changing the 3 most common gasket failure for M54?
Please let me know.
Thanks,

On the same note, my '08 535i I am smelling oil. There's no dripping to the ground. However, there's oil leaking from the Valve cover gasket which is running down the exhaust. Besides changing the Valve cover gasket and Oil pan gasket, Oil and Oil Filter, do you recomment changing anything alse? What should be the damage at an Indy shop? I'm too scared to ask about the stealer!!

Its definatly your valve cover gasket
Its not a difficult fix even for those with little mechanical knowledge if you just take your time.
A dealership would be around $500 i think including parts
