Could the fluid deteriorate the hose from the outside?

That is what I meant it falls off or cracks quiet often. Look at it this way it is a cheap problem to have!

getbmwparts.com (Tischer) has it for $2.08 + Shipping ($7.95 USPS) + handling fee (WTF...$4.95) = $14.98....I think I'll order this local.

Glad that you determined it is something simple. I might have an easier (cheaper) fix - Lowes has a collection of o-rings in various sizes. Look in their rack of nuts bolts and screws. You might luck out with one that is a good fit for less than a buck!

Why go to Lows? Its under 3 bucks from the dealer just walk in there ,give them the number and you are done.

Of course - Lowes is merely an alternative ... A BMW part is always preferred but I'll bet the dealer will have to order it!

And that's when the handling charge comes in. I'll contact a dealer next to my place and see what they say. Thanks guys!

Folks, I got an active steering error today and it said that it's possibly low on fluid. I checked and the reservoir is literally empty.
It's Sunday and all BMW dealers are closed. I have some power steering fluid you buy at gas stations, I am wondering what type of fluid should I buy since BMW is not open today just to get me going again, until I visit BMW tomorrow.

Thanks!

OK, I checked and the requirement is CHF 11s trying to find some around my area.
