My Ride: '04 530i sport, Titanium Silver
Thumbs up

Hi all,

I have my new '08 535xi sport and am really enjoying the car. One problem that I'm having, however, is that the voice command to add a phone number to the voice dialing list doesn't appear to be working.

In my '06 530i sport, it was "save name", the system would prompt for the name twice, then ask for the number then you say "save" and it was available afterwards by saying "dial name".

According to my owner's manual, this is the same process, but when I try "save name" I end up getting either the settings menu or the satellite radio.

Does anyone else have this problem or a possible solution?

Thanks,
Bryan

You will be happy to know that this step is not necessary. You have NAV. The system will now recognize the names in your phone book. Try it. Say "call [whomever]".

Yup, just say the name the way it's spelled in the phonebook -- the car has speech-to-text processing so it can find entries in the book without you having to "teach" it first...

Forget not necessary, it can't be done if you have Professional Nav, in which case you must use the "Dial Name" feature. The Save Name feature works only if you do not have Professional Navigation. Personally I think the Dial Name feature although its trying to be more er Professional its actually more annoying because I have loads of names in my Phone book even I can't understand let alone the car.

Ah. Thanks for the tip. Weird that it specifically mentioned the "save name" command in the owner's manual. Perhaps I missed an asterisk or something.

Thanks as always for the help!
