They're getting better mpg due to the energy regeneration technology. The alternator doesn't need to work when there is enough battery reserve = bit more power on tap and nice fuel consumption.
No progman on this one nor will the hardware be retrofittable within any reason.
It's just amazing lookin at those figures...

I think BMW intentionally detuned 2006-2007 550 engine. Everyone knows that 550s aren?t faster than 545s. Probably BMW decided that now it is time for them to extract the real power from 4.8 liter engine. I almost sure that with the latest software my sleeping beauty (2007 550) will come alive. Just check how well the same engine performs in 750 Li. This car being heavier that S550 (382hp/391lb/f) usually shows the same acceleration numbers as the Benz. On the other hand 550 (BMW) gets destroyed by 550 (E) in all tests.
I hope you are right as I am getting a 08 550i in June. We shall see!

Except the magazines which for the most part have shown the 550 to be faster. Of course they use automated testing equipment - so what do they know!

Model Weight 0-60 1/4 mile
750 - 4,552 - 5.7 - 14.2/103
S550 - 4,465 - 5.6 - 14.1/102
550 - 3,925 - 5.2 - 13.5/105
E550 - 3,885 - 4.8 - 13.1/108
It's the six cylinder engines that benefits from direct injection, the V8 is basically the same. What the V8 benefits from is partly the new auto transmission and other save reducing features, such as the electronically steered generator.

0.3s on the 0-60 ?
Impossible ... They would be 30 HP .
Simply they now declare 0.3s less ..

I noticed in a recent post on the engine comparisons in the LCI (08) vs. the MY07 that although the same 360 hp V8 engine remains in the LCI, that the 0-60 time is faster and the engine consumes less gas.
I am wondering if this is achieved through a software tweak, or is some hardware being modified.
I want to apply this , if possible to my 07 550i.
Anyone have information on this MY08 improvement?

My Ride: My ex-ride: EU '08 LCI 520dA. Space Grey, Sport Seats in Black Leather/Fabric Anthracite, Sport Steering Wheel, A/C with Extended Features, Hi-Fi Speakers, Cup Holders, Cruise with Braking function, Folding Rear Seats, Xenons, Park Distance Control.
Please note that both the manual and auto has improved 0.3 s in the 0-60 mph acceleration.
There theoretical top speed is way over 250 km/h (limited top speed) anyway,
so why wood BMW not tighten the ratios a bit?
The V8's have had the gas DI since 545i!
It must be that the gearbox ratios are changed a bit plus new parts and tech in the opper block (valves)
and some new programming.
I'm also sure that only upgrading the Progman doesn't do the job.
Now the 545i is for sure slower than the LCI 550i!
