If you look carefully you will see that the USB and AUX now seem to be under the phone cradle. This is the area that was cooled when you order Advanced Air Con (now standard). So I think that the best location and you wont loose your phone cradle too.

That's how it looks but it also looks as though a phone cradle/charger could not co-exist with it.

Interesting.

That is much better than the previous placement of behind the console. Even the current AUX IN location is in a dumb place.

Any idea if the new LCI iPod/Aux can be retrofitted on pre-facelift cars?

If all this is software driven then I don't see why not. But it may not because we are already pushing the processing power of the onboard CPU without the unnecessary load of reading a USB device. Ofcourse you can always do all the processing at the socket itself and simply send the Aux signal to the audio system. Only time will tell. There will be many people who will start looking at the extent of LCI into pre-LCI retrofits.

Would require new CCC most likely - an expensive retrofit.

For the record, about the location of the USB jack, I spoke with a BMW product manager today and he confirmed it is indeed in the console where the brochure shows it to be.

And no-one who was interested thought make this enquiry earlier?

Well done.

I believe a few people did exactly that but their local BMW folk didn't really know (until now).
Even the leaked marketing document from BMW was very misleading (both to dealerships and to us punters).

Did YOU ask your local BMW product manager?

I didn't.

Mainly because I abhor iPod and MP3 and secondly because I'm not in the LCI market.

I wonder who first interpreted the documentation locating the USB port in the rear console?
