Recently, my rear tires (factory Continentals) did not have enough tread on them to pass our state's safety inspection so I had to get new ones.

Now I know these high-performance tires aren't supposed to last a ton of miles but in my case, the car doesn't have 10K on the odometer and I used winter tires for probably 45% of those miles! Okay, so I can have a heavy foot and I've been spoiled by the many free Dunlop replacements on my old car but even those lasted longer than these Continentals...

How is everyone else doing with the treadwear on the factory tires?
Unless you are doing burnouts or regularly driving the car on a racetrack, it's just ridiculous that your Conti's wore out after 6K miles. Unacceptable. I'd complain to BMW. I understand these are high performance tires but 6,000 miles is a joke even for those.

Impressive mileage for the rears, are you still on the OEM Conti SportContact2's?

Yes the original tires.

Hey, Rudy...stop the burnouts, even though this post was 8 months ago!

The key would have been noticing one tire with much less traction than the other....a dead giveaway for burnouts given the lack of limited slip.

This is making the Dunlop run flats look like high mileage rubber!
It's definitely time for all of us to switch to all season Michelin sport/pilots.

With greetings from Beijing, but you can bet I shall return in time for the Bear Mtn. run!

Small world. I am currently in Beijing (on vacation, going to Shanghai tomorrow) as well but I will be back for the Bear Mountain meet.

Timely to see this thread re-appear..

My 2008 550i has 15K miles, rear Conti's are at the wear bars, fronts are noisy and wearing fast at edges. Car ride has deteriorated, although still very good

Checked out tire rack last night to take first look at replacement options.

Anybody put the General Exclaims on their 5er?

I had a set of Exclaim UHP's on my old Maxima, and lots of folks here use them, but don't expect the same performance as the Conti's. Exclaim's are all-season tires, officially. And, by the way.....
