Recently, my rear tires (factory Continentals) did not have enough tread on them to pass our state's safety inspection so I had to get new ones.

Now I know these high-performance tires aren't supposed to last a ton of miles but in my case, the car doesn't have 10K on the odometer and I used winter tires for probably 45% of those miles! Okay, so I can have a heavy foot and I've been spoiled by the many free Dunlop replacements on my old car but even those lasted longer than these Continentals...

How is everyone else doing with the treadwear on the factory tires?
Wow... I have just over 16K on my Continentals and would guess I have another 5 - 8K to go. And a good 2 - 3K of these miles are on spirited BMW Club drives as well. You might check the date on the tires. Real strange they would wear so fast.

Just turned 10,000 miles on mine. The rears are near the wear bars in the center towards the innner edge but fine on the outsides. The fronts are fine. I do like a slightly over inflated tire so I run 36/38 front/rear. I guess I'll be needing tires soon since I have a state inspection due this month.

I've done one driving school and several spirited runs on the car but that would mostly affect the outside edges which is fine.

I never got less than 20k miles from Michelin PS2s. I also liked Goodyear F1 GSD3s but don't know if they are available in 550i sizes.
I'm also tempted to try PS2 all seasons. Any experiences?

A +300 hp car with ultra high performance low profile 19" tires, what did you guys expect?
Just guess where's the smoke coming from.

Michelin PS 2's gives you a bit better mileage!
Better still, the standard 17" wheels and tires...

I've got a 550 and I have a little over 11k on mine. My rear tire tread still looks pretty good. I probably will get another 6k-8k on them. I've even done a few burn outs with them.

I've been driving cars with ultra high performance tires for many years now -- I didn't expect them to last 25K but I did expect them to last more than 6K!

Rudy, if you had to replace the tires, what did you go with? More Continentals to match the fronts?

I will probably only make 8-9K, but I noticed the right is significantly more worn than the left. I know we technically are not supposed to, but what happens if you cross rotate them?

I now have 12K on my LR Conti (RR is new). I measure 5/32" on the outer groove. If 10/32" is new (per calpalmer) I have 50%. There has been no spirited driving. I cannot recall when my tires' surface speed did not match that of the road. Well maybe once in a while in the rain.

Rudy, why did you stay with Conti?
