I'm hitting 5k on the odometer and I'm actually seeing quite a bit of rear tire wear. I'd say about 30 - 40% tread left. BUT, I attribute the early tire wear to the fact that I've always taken a nice long spirited drive on the bay area back road twisties every sunday since i've gotten the car.... with DSC off. One thing that is kinda cool is that the continentals sure do "smoke" really nice coming out of the apex

I replaced the rears at 10K miles and I'm looking to replace them again very soon.

Has anyone with high wear had their alignment checked? don't assume it was 100% correct from the factory, it's not like they have 30 mins per car to do it.

I don't have Contis on my 545 but have them on 07 VW GTI. The tires are Conti Sport contacts 2. Car has 12K miles now and I also used different set in the winter for about 4-5K miles plus my wife drives it to work! I have to say that tires are at about 30% rears and 50% fronts (strange) So they will last for about 5 maybe 6K miles. Not a very good result I must say...

Rudy I meant 50-75% tread remaining on the rears, after 8K miles.

I have the 275 size Contis on my rear wheels, and I managed to squeeze around 13k miles out of the 1st set before needing to replace. I don't drive especially hard though - just the occasional blast from standstill or round corners..........

Rudy, do you know what pressures you were running and did you check it often? I never rely on the TPMS to tell me if my pressures are good. Once a week at the least, I check the pressures. A little OCD I know but whatever.

All the best

i don't have a 550 nor the contis, but my rear 275/30/19 general UHP last like 25k miles or so? that's really stretching to bald....
i now have 8k miles on the new set and it's probably 40% gone...
i do some spirited driving, but i only have a 525i and a manual so that could have helped.
still, i expected a set of tires to last at least 15k miles...
i would complain if you get less than 10k miles on them, that seems way excessive. it's tough to swallow spending 1k a year just for the rear tires...

interestingly on my fronts, it has 33k miles and still have tread left, i think that should last at least another 5k miles. it's amazing how much difference it can make. also like other says, check on tire pressure or if any uneven wear.

Rudy, I measured my tread depth on front and rear Conti's: 8 on fronts, 7 on rears. Originals were 10/32nds. I think wear-bars are at 2 (is that right? I should have measured). Hence that would mean my rears have about 50% treadlife remaining after 8000 miles. (Remember I spent a day at the track, that was probably 2000 miles worth of rubber and brake pads!!)

Hope this helps,

Cal
