Recently, my rear tires (factory Continentals) did not have enough tread on them to pass our state's safety inspection so I had to get new ones.

Now I know these high-performance tires aren't supposed to last a ton of miles but in my case, the car doesn't have 10K on the odometer and I used winter tires for probably 45% of those miles! Okay, so I can have a heavy foot and I've been spoiled by the many free Dunlop replacements on my old car but even those lasted longer than these Continentals...

How is everyone else doing with the treadwear on the factory tires?

So basically you are saying they lasted for 5500 or so miles. That?s not very much at all and definitely below any expectation one would have.

Did you discuss this premature wear with the SA at your workshop?

I have 7000 km on my car and probably 2000 km at the most are on the winter tires and they LOOK fine but I never measured... hmmm...

I would definitely discuss this with BMW.

I'm planning on it but wanted to get some feedback from you and others first...

(This is kind of what we did during the early stages of the Dunlop roar issue and it ended up getting BMW to publish the bulletin, etc.)

I am approaching 7 k miles and visually the tread look OK but I've never measured or really inspected. Will take a closer look later today...

I am approaching 5,500 miles and they seem to be fine. Almost all highway miles. I'll check again though.

4000 miles on the odometer and the tread seems to be age appropriate. Then again, I don't know what sort of mileage to expect out of them?

You talking percentage left or percentage gone? (Obviously, I'm not questioning the 50% number... )

The biggest problem with the 275" tires and the auto tranny is the wear on the rear. People with the manual tranny will see less wear on the rear.. IT really does not surprise methat you only made 7k on your set - i assume you do have a very heavy foot

One point to mention is the level of wear across the tires? if you keep to the tires pressures as advised by the tire makers, then the wear in the middle is more than on the sides. Is that the case with your set?

Is your dog borrowing your car at night and doing burnouts?
