I read that the 550i manual 6M shifter is a shorter, sport shifter not standard on the 528 or 535. I may want to retrofit it to my LCI ('08 528). First, does anyone see a problem with that. Second, how difficult would it be--could I do it myself or do I need to pay someone to do it. Third, does anyone have a pic of it--I'd love to see what it looks like. Thanks!

 

I think I may have answered my own question--I think it's a shorter throw box, not a different shifter.

 

If you take a close look at the picture in the 08 pdf brochure that's going around, the shifter appears to be significantly shorter than the regular one. I'm anxious to find out as the long-ish throws of the current E60 were one of my big disappointments of the car, especially as compared to the E39.
