Hi all,

So how are the fortunate members of this model enjoying themselfs ? Happy with the engine ? How's the milleage with the AT ? Any regrets of not taking the Diesel one ?

Needless to say that my future choice of a E60 is between a 525d and a 530i, both LCIs...

Thanks

Having not driven either LCI model it is hard to give an informed opinion.

From your choice though, I would choose the 530i over the 525d but when you look at the list prices you are not comparing apples with apples.

To choose between a 530i and a 530d (which are the natural competitors), would require me to drive them back to back.

Sorry I can't help more!

Agreed! 530i is much more expensive to buy & drive.

I chose between 530d & 530i an I took the little more expensive 530d. I'm really happy with that choice, the engine is amazing, much revier and sharper than my old 2005 530d. And it averages less than 8l/100km with a heavy foot.

dont hesitate to much, hesitation should be more for the petrol engine, and not the diesil,

They sell them selfs, excellent performance together with mind blowing mpg (more so compared with other like for like marques)

520d would be m reccommendation tom you and anyone looking for a new LCI E60 2007 >

Let us know which model, and engine you go for, some pics also please........

Thanks for your inputs.

I thing it's more about a matter of reasonable and passionate. Used to drive a E46 328i with 192hp and what an engine! Of course, I was consuming 13L/100 in mostly town driving.

However, with the new BMW technologies, I've seen quite a few numbers about the consumption of the LCI i6 engines and it seems, at least on paper, that they are quite reasonable...

Planning to do only 15.000KM/year, the argument of gas is not that relevant to me. Refinement and power delivery, is. Since I only tested the pre-LCI 525d some years ago, I don't know if the present model is more silent than the old one. Guess I just have to test drive both...

Remember that the engines have been updated at least once (if not more) even before the LCI. We had a 2004 525d. We changed to a 2006 530d. By this time, there was also a new 525d out which was faster and more refined/quieter than the 525d we had. But we wanted the 530d I must say, driving the 530d I have now is unbelievable - it is much faster and more refined that smaller engined petrols that friends have. Most are stunned to find out it's a diesel. I can't wait to get in the LCI 535d that is due in a few weeks time.

So, in short, an LCI 525d is at least two engine revisions from a 2004 525d. Perhaps more, but they are VERY different.

I just love the new car - I had an '04 530 before and the new 530 is better in many ways. I took a trip of around 8000 Kilometres this summer and the new engine is more fuel efficient even though it's more powerful. My average including lots of Autobahn, Autoroute and Autopista was 9.3L/100KM

Apart from the engine, I like the new door panels, the new buttons for the stereo and climate control, the eight programmable buttons and a lot of other things.

Hi,

Now I have about 4000 km on the odometer and I do not regret one single second about my choice. The new 3 l engine is simply fantastic. Powerful, sporty well performing. Compared to my old 525i it is much cheaper. Average consumption is 9,5 l/100 km and about 12 l/100 km in town. With such petrol engine I will never consider a diesel. Go with the new sport auto it is really fun to drive.

Rgds

I also have just over 4,000 km on the clock. Most of this was the result of a trip to Nantes (Western France) in August. (2600 km round trip). The car was a beaut to drive on the highways. I reset the on board computer before I left- the average consumption, going there was 8.2 l/100km! I , of course stuck to the speed limits (120+10% in Spain), (either 110 or 130km/h in France). On the way back, I managed 8.7 l/100km- I drove a bit more aggressively over one of the mountain passes near San Sebastian. I am happy with the engine, although I believe that the direct injection makes it rougher at idle- once you get the revs up, its as sweet as the traditional Beemer in line sixes. I have to admit that I am not using the Sport function that much- except for that blast thru the mountain pass. My biggest problem with the gearbox is that the shift direction is the opposite to my previous e39 530i and I?ve had some scary moments- especially when trying to overtake on single lane roads- my natural tendency is to pull the lever towards me to engage a lower gear- this car upshifts and you lose all speed.

I did test drive the 535d and that is anawesome car-however previous disappointments with a diesel engined car, fear of turbo failure and great experience with my E39 530i swung my decision. I will also do a maximum of 15k kilometres per year so fuel consumption is not a major priority.
