Hey Guys

I am not sure if this topic has been covered but does the SMG tranny in the E60 have a launch control feature as in the new M5? I have been doing a little research and I found out that the current M3 has this same feature. I am also aware that the M3 has the SMGII tranny.

Yes, they call it "Acceleration Assistant."

It does work, although you need to be on a surface with good traction otherwise you'll just smoke the passengers side rear tire. Shifts MUCH harder (quicker) than Sport mode.

1. Turn off both DTC and DSC. (hold in button for 3 secs.)
2. Turn on Sport mode.
3. Put selector in D.
4. Floor Accelerator past "kickdown" switch.
4. Engine revs to about 4500.
5. The SMG will dump the clutch.
6. Hold on.

The SMG will automatically shift (and chirp tires again into 2nd) at the redline during Accel. Assistant in manual or auto mode.

Watch out, as 100 mph comes up really quick!!

I suppose this is a stupid question but does this work with Steptronic as well? From the description it seems like it could.

Nope. SMG only. There's no clutch to "drop" on the steptronic (automatic).

Too bad I thought maybe in that mode it would "automatically" go from a neutral position to 2nd or something -- wouldn't that almost be like "dropping the clutch"?

There's nothing like dropping the clutch when the engine is at optimal RPMs...
