I still only have 300 miles but I had to accelerate strongly to avoid a potential mess. I floored it and got immediate response with no turbo lag. This car feels quicker and more immediate than my 545. It feels like it has more torque below 4000 rpm as well.
I hit the 7,000 rpm redline while shifting (it did not upshift itself) and the shift was instantaneous, I still can't believe how fast it shifts.
On my 545 SMG I was racing an Audi S4 4.2 with a normal six speed. Both cars were evenly matched in thrust (remember the A4 is lighter) but at every shift he dropped back a half car lenght (slower shifting) and I only dropped a quarter car length, so after a few shifts I was clearly ahead. This was because of the faster shifting SMG. The Sports Auto would only make you loose a few feet per shift verses a quarter or half car lenght.
I will keep you posted!

I am enjoying reading about your experiences. Your car is similar to what I have on order arriving in Sept. I headed into the dealership intending to order a manual but my salesman suggested I drive the sports auto. I was amazed at how quick it shifted. I just do not see the need for a manual with this technology available.

pennetta is right, when accelerating harder and shifting, the car never really falls back at all. A few feet? How about a few inches! I have a little over 1000 miles now (getting close!) and sometimes that 4000 rpm limit becomes 4500 or 5000 rpm once in a while. Even so, I'm usually only about half throttle and the shifts are simply undetectable in most cases.
I can say that I've only floored it once (same reason as pennetta -- I had to get my ass out of a jam) and it downshifted and pulled very nicely. I may be hitting the magic 1200 mile mark by the weekend or next week for sure!

You just made my day! My golf Pro at my club got a 545 SMG about a year ago after driving mine and I was going to pursuade him to race after I hit 1200 miles but wasn't sure how to ask a 50 year old guy "Do you wanna race?"

My car was too early for the sport auto, but with respect to engine performance, if you can wait until around 4000 or 5000 miles, the car just keeps getting better.
