Hello all,

I have a UK 2006 (56) BMW 525D M-Sport

For the last 2 months the navigation map sometimes work, sometimes does not come on at all, i'll drive for 30 minutes and it will turn it's self on then back off again, sometimes it does not show roads, and can sometimes just works fine. When the navigation is not working on the navigation menu on the idrive it asks to put the CD in, but the CD is already in.

Basically works when ever it wants to.

The navigation CD is the one that came with the car when bought new from the dealer, which is a 2006 Europe Navigation CD, my main concern for the navigation problems is that maybe the CD is to old and needs updating?

Any ideas guys? seriously considering trading in the car for a BMW X6, just due to the navigation problems.

Many thanks in advance,
-Cream Sauce

Unfortunately it's almost definitely the CD/DVD drive. They're not that great in BMW's and when they fail they struggle to read the disc. If you have a warranty get the drive replaced.

In the first instance, though, eject the disc and check it's clean and not scratched.

There is a chance of BMW goodwill, especially if it's a known problem (which they usually deny to your face, but ignore that). It depends or your dealer and whether they think you have good potential as a future customer.

They may fix it for free (unlikely) or they may spit the costs 50/50 or they may pay for the parts and you the labour.

Well yeah bought three X5's from the same dealer same sales person, who is now a manager at the dealer, I shall be paying them a visit tomorrow.

On a side note: Stupid Ken livingston, made me sell my beast of an X5 2 years ago, as there was rumours he was going to introduce ?2000 a year on 4x4's.

Many thanks !
