I have just acquired a 530d SE that does not appear to have a journey computer, stopwatch, or speed limit under the on-board info in i-drive. The manual implies I should have it, a BMW rep says it only comes with professional Nav system. I do not have any nav system. can anyone clarify please? It seems crazy that a normal 5 series does not have a trip computer!

Thanks

I have no Navigation and I do have the journey computer, stopwatch and speed limit features in under the on-board info in the i-drive. My E60 is a November 2003 build. How old is your car? Maybe its not present on the newer 2004 model???

It's a May 03 build (registered 11/03) according to the technical screen you get to by some magic combination of button pushing on the i-drive. Maybe journey comp is only present on newer models

I seem to remember a previous discussion on this thread. I believe that the consensus was that there are two versions of the On Board Computer (OBC) - a basic and an advanced.

These additional functions are only available on systems with the advanced OBC.

The advanced version comes with both versions of Nav and on cars with Advanced Air Conditioning, regardless of whether they have Nav.

Those with Std A/C and no Nav get the basic OBC.

Nav with Std A/C - Advanced OBC
Advanced A/C - Advanced OBC
No nav, Std A/C - Basic OBC

I have a 530d with Std A/C and I do not have the Speed Warning, etc.

I believe PhilS is correct. I have a May 04 build and I have all those options

I don't know about any differences. But when I picked my 545 up, the distribution for the seat heaters was missing in my idrive climate control menu. For some unknown reason it appeared after I tested external heater and ventilation.
Also I was missing two positions in the service status menu, and my dealer then activated them.
I would check with the dealer. Maybe he can fix this.

As PhilS has explained your car is working properly, it's just that most dealer cars will have adv air con and or nav so you see something like a speed limit which has nothing to do with either and assume your getting it.

I complained to my dealer and they spoke to BMW who said everything is as intended.

The moral of the story for me is to try and test drive something closer to my spec next time I purchase a car.

Garry,

Don't know about you but "up north" I had a dreadful time getting to test drive anything like the car I've got. Lucky I knew the 2.5litre straight six already, but the add ons to a large extent were guess work, "ooh that sounds nice"-type decisions.
