The new L7 sounds great. My previous E39 with DSP allowed me to also adjust room size and echo as well as create three memory setting. I really loved being able to adjust those things and I switched between my memory setting often. It appears I cannot do it with the L7, is that correct?
Sorry to ask so many quesitons on my first day. I just picked up the car on Friday and spent about four hours surfing this site so far.

L7 allows adjustment of a seven-band equalizer, plus bass, plus treble, plus front/rear fader, plus setting 3 DSP settings (off, theater, concerhall, I think). No other adjustments are possible like the ones you referred to. It's always possible I forgot something but that's the basic group of adjustments. Happy listening.

It's not really "real" memory either .. if you take your car in for service and they update the software it'll reset everything set in iDrive. Very annoying. Not to mention last time my dealer messed up my seat settings which took me forever to adjust. Those settings are also erased.
I've got them back now though!

I'm still not certain that the L7 is so much better than the e39's dsp, but I've only had the car since Friday and have not gone through enough Cd's yet. My cd magazine has been jammed in the changer since I picked the car up. The idrive is not recognizing it and I cannot eject. As such, my Cold Play cd is locked up in there and it would be unfair to make a definitive comparison until I get it back.

And the only memory you have for it is the key memory. The settings will be stored in the key. So you have two keys, you have two memorys. But that doesn't really help in your case, since you like to switch settings while driving...
I think, though, that what's better about L7 than DSP is that the EQ settings are applied on top of the Theater, Concert or Off L7 settings.
In E39 DSP, if you wanted to apply your own EQ settings, you had to turn off the factory presets, or try to duplicate them by guessing, then make your changes.
You couldn't apply your own EQ settings to Concert in that system. You had to start over. I found that once I got it set up right, I stopped switching between 1, 2 and 3, anyway, so I'm not missing the 2 extra sets.

Okay Iceman, this thread reminds me of another feature request. Rather than posting it in that thread, I'll do it here...
The EQ and L7 settings need to be stored separately for each entertainment source. In other words, AM radio should have different settings than FM, CD, etc. (It's funny but the 2000 S-class had only one set of settings and I spoke with an M-B regional manager about it back in 2000 and now, I think the current cars have independent settings.)
