I have also been experiencing the same problem, but in first gear when i slam on the gas i get a big bang coming out the front end of my car, is that the same thing that you are talking about?

nope, mine happens at very low acceleration in the 2nd and 3rd gears,
usually notice it when i stuck in slow moving traffic and goes away once the speed goes over 40mph

I'll actually venture a real reply. Obviously the seat is bolted into some form of bracketing (I don't own a 5-series, but most seats are). Because of the complex electronics in the seat (power adjustments, heaters, etc.), I imagine it's not as simple as just unbolting, sliding back, and rebolting anymore. However, I'd start with my local service center and see if they can recommend anything. Failing that, and based on your own comfort level around warranty, etc., I'd visit one of the BMW specialist auto shops in your area and talk to them about it. Worst case scenario it might require some precarious welding, but I can't imagine that it's really that difficult.
Good luck!

Interesting. when i have some time to spare, i will contact Moblie and Castrol about the thickness of the oil when its cold. its hard to believe that certain oils can flow better when they are cold. if you remember way back to science class, molecules move faster as they heat up. as they get colder they "slow down" that theory has been around for years, and its hard to believe that the oil companies can flip it around. just my opinion.
OK - I think you will be in for an eye-opener.
For example:
Multi weight oils are designed to have better pour values and synthetic is the best of the best. I am sure that an oil guru will chime in and explain viscosity and weights. What I remember about science class is that molecules are closer at colder temperatures and farther apart at higher temps. But that is why multi weight oils were introduced to combat the prinicples of temperature and molecules.
In theory - that exact opposite could be true - that a 10W- 30 maybe be better than a 5W-30.
Modern science - gotta love it.

i have similar problem on my 530i like plastic tapping but they are "normal"as my service advisor said because of the throttle response something...
but about octane.. i had to change fuel sending unit 3 times and one of the asssistant service manager told me to not put 93 and put 89 because of ethanol.... they said car will run better on 89 because of low ethanol....

I also have an '05 545i and have had the car in a few times (to the dealership I purchased it from) and the Regional service rep took a look at it. They say it's normal. Yeah, for a Volvo! I didn't hear it when I was test driving the car (probably had the radio too loud or the salesman was talking) and I would not have bought it had I heard the noise. I am going to try another service center to get a second opinion.
On the noise, when I first start it up there is no noise, even when I accelerate at idle. Back out of the garage and start to accelerate under load though and the noise appears. I'll post what I get from the second dealership. If they want my new business, maybe they'll replace the heads as I've seen on this forum to fix the problem.

I have the same problem. It's not a rythmic tap but more like a random rattle. Dose it on idle and only at low rpms....is really bad at around 500-700 rpms while the engine is under load and letting out the clutch. Anything over 800 rpms and it sounds great. I just recently posted a ? About this with no absolute answers. My Buddy who is a tech mechanic at the bmw dealer said it was nothing and 2 just turn up the radio. At times it can sound embarrasing......I wonder if I can just have the idle adjusted up to 800?
