I had this problem recently, using jump leads to start the Z3 (weekend toy) and when I closed the bonnet, the car locked itself.

I had to get the spare keys to manually unlock the car - cause a bit of a fright!

Hey Rudy, When are you gonna change that avitar pic. Its been on for a while.

Just wondering.
I'll second that request! Everytime I see it, I cringe. The fella in the picture looks sorta queer. Looks like he'd be checkin' you out or something.

Change it, please.

Hi, I wonder if anyone of u have this experience. The car locked the doors itself when I get down to open the trunk, here is how it happend:
1. I open the driver side door, press the unlock button (next to the vent in the center).
2. Closed the door and walk to the trunk.
3. Can't open the trunk and checked all doors are LOCKED.
4. Key is left inside the car with the engine running.

Anyone know why? I guess is the timing that I push the lock/unlock button and pull the inside door handle to open the door, the timing just too close so the system can't recognize that they are 2 separate events and locked the car wrongly.

Anyways, just want to remind frds here in order to avoid any victim like myself!
Step by step this is EXACTLY as it happened to me last winter. Freezing temps, on an Austrian motorway gas station, with just my shirt on me. Snowing hard... In car very warm, and I was going nuts outside. I will search for the thread where I explained in detail what happened.

However, the BMW Munich agreed this should not have happened.

I have always the little rescue key in my wallet.

Once, I opened the trunk, locked the doors, took s.th. in the trunk, and closed it ... Gosh ! I forgot the carkey in the locked trunk... I had to call my wife who had to rejoin me with the other carkey.

That's why I have now always the rescue key with me.

Been thinking about it...I got sort of attached to this one and kept it around...I wonder how many newbies think it's a picture of me?

Actually, this character is passable. The others were really scary.

The leasing company has my valet key, I have one more year. Anyway, I have the second key with me when away from home, but it was in the trunk in laptop bag.

Well, because it's not the plastic simple valet key, I thought, I will arrive at my hotel and keep it in the safe there. Never crossed my mind, I will have a problem on the road. Bad thinking. Now, I have two keys on me whenever I go away from home.
