Default Key FOB..reset procedure help

Searched but could not find anything specific to my problem...

So here is what happened, wify inserted the remote key fob but did not push it all the way in; the message on the screen popped as if car is ready to start and then she hit the engine start button and the car started. but the remote key fob was not all the way in and accepted by the system. Half way through the drive the remote key fob fell off and there was a key error symbol with a slash across and the idrive was saying to visit the dealer. Now If I insert the remote key fob half way in and am able to start the car but the car won't accept the remote key fob all the way as it was doing before, where the remote key fob would be accepted all the way in and would stay there. It just does not allow me to push the remote key fob in. I am scared to apply any force and try to force the remote key fob in as it just does not allow the remote key fob to be inserted and says I should see the dealer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You
Javvy

Thank you all for looking but I gooled the solution and here is the link.

BMW: E60 key fob wont stay in : BMW 5 series Forum • BMWLand

Cut and pasting the issue as well so it is available for future search’s.

"Issue:
Help... the key fob slot won’t accept my key! Can sort of hold it in there and push start button to start car but fob wont stay in... any easy fixes?

EDIT: more details, should it help.

Essentially, the fob slot wont "grab" the key. I can hold it in there, enabling me to start the car. As soon as I release it just pops right out. This results in a warning saying the key is not present, but the car is still driveable.

Solution:
This happened to me a while ago! I put my fingers in the slot and pulled something at the bottom of the slot which made a similar clicking sound as to when a key is normally released. I think the wife pulled the key out with out pushing it in so the locking mechanism stayed stuck at the back
"

The above worked for me like a charm….

Thank you all.

Thank ou for posting the link and doing the research, Javvy!
I have a similar issue with my car.
My son pulled the FOB out of the column while the car was still running, then I got yhe warning light same as you described.
Car starts fine, but wont retain the FOB, it just "spits" it out.
I will try this "fix" as well!
Thanks again!

UPDATE: YAHOOOO!!! it worked!
I cant believe it was that easy.LOL.
I`ve been driving around with this malfunction and error for the last 2 weeks!
Thanks again for pioneering the solution!
CHEERS!
