I am supposed to be talking with the finance manager about the warranty tomorrow. If I can get the warranty under $3000 I will probably do it. $3000 is cheaper than the $10,000 difference between my car and an 06 550i upgrade, and they are basically the same car so I feel better keep mine, which I know is in great shape and well maintained. Thanks for all the responses, I will keep everyone posted.

Just found out I can get a warranty through my dealership that will cover me another 3 years or up to 100,000 miles for 2500 bucks. This is mechanical breakdown only, no wear items. I have 64,000 miles now. What does everyone think about the price?

That sounds about normal - what is the deductible? Keep in mind ONLY the Extended Maintenance Warranty covers wear items and even then NOT all of them (suspension being one that is not covered). So getting some insurance against a breakdown is well worth the $$$ - imagine how much you'll save if you happen to drive into a lake as some of our members have

My opinion isn't much seeing as how I haven't even owned my car a month now (my first BMW). I've been reading up like crazy on the forums trying to get educated on how to maintain my no-warranty 530. As a general rule, I've never purchased extended warranties on anything, however I've also never owned anything that can cost so much to repair. From everything I've been reading I'd strongly consider that extended warranty at that price given the issues with the 545. The more I read the happier I am that my wife got a 530 instead. I'll maintain it as best I can, and hope she lasts a long time.

I did ask the dealership about purchasing CPO warranty for my car, but he told me that it was an 05 model made in late 04 and was six years old and not eligible for the BMW warranty. From what I've read on aftermarket warranties about cost and coverage, and reimbursements, I'll have to take my chances I suppose.

Deductible is $100 each occurrence
