I am considering having the K40 installed in my car, mainly because it is such a clean install with both front and rear protection. My opinion is that the V1 is one of the best windshield mounted detectors out there.

How good is the K40 in comparison? Any opinions are welcome.

I say that the Valentine 1 is superior, for several reasons:

1. Windshield mount is higher up than a grill or bumper mount, which increases the effective range of the device.

2. Valentine 1 has the Arrows to display from which direction the radar threat exists. K40, I beleive, uses an audio indication for direction.... but visual is better.

3. Valentine 1 is portable, so you can take it to another car in just a few moments.

4. Valentine 1 offers product upgrades for all of their products... so if the make a new feature, you can upgrade at a lower price than buying a new detector.

I agree with all except perhaps the audible alerts. The K40 install includes an audible alert in front and behind the driver so you know without even looking at the device that the threat is coming from the front or rear. But, with the music up it may be better to have visual. When at the dealer today getting info on the k40, a custom interior guy was there and showed me his V1 hard wire install. I may go for that for all the other reasons you mentioned, not to mention it will save me about $1,000 or more.
