Wanted to know if anyone has any input on racing a corvette coupe? And I'm sure it is a combination but, what is more important HP, Engine or liter. My husband just called and was harrassing me because he was driving my father-in-laws corvette and was asking if I wanted to race . My guess is he would smoke me. I believe the corvette coupe is 400-hp, 6.0. What do you think....is this old guy's car gonna embarress me??? :'(

I know Don will have something to say about this, but I think my 545 handles better than my Vette.
They are both fun to drive though, and you can use all 6 gears, whereas he can normally only use 5 out of 6.

It all depends on the driver, but basically, in a straight line - yes, Corvette C6 will whip you.
Now, on a twisty mountain road - I don't think so.

Ok, sorry I laughed. Below is all I have "concretely"--without getting into C5/C6 Z06 data.

Toni, well I suspect that any Corvette made in the last ten years probably will whip your butt in a straight line. The Vette should do 0-60 in the neighborhood of 4.5-4.7 seconds, if it is a LS-1 or LS-2. If it is a LS-6 the time would be closer to 4.0 seconds. If it is a LS-7, forget it. But, and this is a BIG but, if you get him on the twistes, I bet he would have a hard time losing you.

I think the 545i may be a tad more pleasant on twisites, but it would never win a twist contest with a C6 me thinks--much less even an "old" Z06. She said 400 HP so I assume she is talking about a C6 non Z06.

Are you on drugs? The Vette would show you tiny taillights around any course, mtn. road, straight line, whatever.
Come on. Equal drivers, you're gonna get smoked straight line, turns, whatever.
I'm not bashing the 550. I owned a 530, great car.
But let's come back to reality. The C6 coupe runs low 12s consistently bone stock in good weather. The 550 has got to be about a second slower than that. And come on, the c6 has got to be at least 500 lbs lighter, better tires/brakes, better weight layout... You could keep up with the C6 at 7/10ths driving, but wick it up a bit, and bye bye vette as soon as the driver chooses to dispatch you...
Over on Corvetteforum there was a guy asking about buying a new Z06 or an M5. Some folks over there trashed the M5, I stood up for it and posted real world stats.
