As the final kick in the pants from our BMW, the logo on the hood has now gone to s**# too, and rather appropriately states "BM," and we all know what that stands for. Just perfect... BMW logo peeling-bmw_logo.jpg

I believe he was referring to "Bowel Movement".

When I look at the surface of the logo that's still on there and the condition of the paint, i'd say that it has taken some serious beating from a carwash, a high pressure steamer or even agressive cleaners / polishers or maybe even both of them.
That and a direct hit from a stone may have damaged the logo by causing a crack or openening in it's surface which in it's turn makes the plastic come loose from it's base.

I had a hood emblem peel once on my E39. The dealer said it happens all the time and simply popped a new one on under warranty. Instead of the carwash story, I told people it peeled off because I was driving too fast!

I don't remember if it left me with a "BM" or not...
