...does the 5er lead the way for all other manufacturers to copy? I just saw the Saab and it is a almost exact match.

I think it is simple. Other car makers have been trying to beat the M3 for 20 years and failed miserably. The next (and easier) target is therefore the 5 er - see Hyundai Genesis et al. The other car makers are always trying to get their cars to be like the BMW's but they will never match the "feel" of the BMW or the handling and performance. They may come close as each generation of the 5 series gets older but then the new one comes out and blows their feeble attempts out of the water.

Firstly, it's good to see the newly independent Saab come out with a new 9-5, albeit one that will have been designed under GM ownership, but this one really doesn't look anything like an E60...

i dont seem much if any resemblance to a bmw. the rear looks like a jag xf, but that's it.

i owned a 2002 saab 9-5 aero that i bought over an e39.

one of the best cars i have ever owned... in fact, i know they are very different, but my e60 reminds me of how i felt when i drove the saab. minus the torque steer, of course.

Agreed, this one doesn't look much like the E60. I have always had a little soft spot in my heart for Saabs - they are not very common on our roads and I like different. They will be much better off without the GM influence IMHO.

OMG

What is independent about the Saab or GM?

US state owned GM (just nationalized) is not independent and they have not sold the Saab yet.

The buyer would be the Swedish supercar manufacturer Koenigsegg that has some 50 employees now.

But still, the Swedes may put in the $$$$$$$$$...

The rims look like BMW, the front aero are a direct bite from lamborghini/Audi w those trapizoidal air intakes, the back is an early TL mixed w the new RL for sure

The car that looks the most like the 5er is without a doubt that homo POS Hyundai Genisis.
