In the past two days I've had:
1. slightly damaged side marker (never going to an automated car wash again)
2. anti-trap mechanism malfunction
3. vibration in the steering wheel at speeds above 55mph

What do you all think all of the above would've cost me to fix, had I gone to the dealer? Car's out of warranty, so keep that in mind. So what do you think? 25 bucks for the side marker plus probably half and hour of labor - okay. Anti-trap? I bet they'd charge me 1.5hrs to disassemble the door, then they'd want to sell me a new module and/or motor, and whatever it would take to re-assemble the door, so - I'm guessing here, haven't checked actual prices - roughly at least 500 bucks there, right? And the vibration in the wheels - 25 per wheel to balance. And they may want to start "looking into other things" at that point as well.

Instead, I used a small bit of double sided tape to fix the side marker. Cost $0.00.
Anti-trap I reset using a TIS I found on this site. Cost $0.00
And balancing I did at a trusted indie for 10 bucks a wheel (two fronts only) and tipped the guy another 10, so cost = $30.00

All in all, not a bad day, huh? Just like my Daddy always used to say "don't be an dummy, dummy!"

Well done mate!

So you didn't have to disassemble the door trim after all, right?

I'm still gonna do it. The motor makes a slightly annoying wining noise when the window rolls up, so I'm afraid something might be still stuck in there.

Besides, I've always wanted to wrap the window switch panels anyway

Well, unfortunately, that's how BMW lives. When people hear their door rubber trim squeak, they rush to the dealership and change the trim for $400. Bad smell in the cabin ? here comes a 200 bill for new filters and so on and so on. And fortunately, we have a great forum like this to help each other out!

Cheers
