I have prod 2-04 545 - my girl's in their for softare upgrades, etc. Was curious to see how much it would cost to retrofit the bluetooth.
Center BMW called and told me it would only cost $1200.00 for a new TCU and necessary software upgrades to get it working???
What are they missing - as I know a new TCU with soft upgrade usually runs about $2000.00 for a BMW dealership to retrofit (previous post costs)???

This website talks about retrofitting blue tooth in an '04 E60 for $675.

The site talks about including a new BMW ULF module in the purchase. Is that the same thing as a TCU? $1200 isn't so bad, but if you can do the same thing for half the price why not?

The cost for the TCU's has come down as it appears that remanufactured units are on the street.
The BTUM requires a cradle in the storage compartment. It eliminates the need for a TCU upgrade to effect BT functionality. It relies upon the CPT 9000 phone hardware being in the car. This phone has gone the way of the dodo so it may be hard to find a cradle and the other hardware to make it all work. Check on costs and availability, maybe even try ebay. At the end of the day, the BTUM with the required hardware and programming may cost as much as the TCU replacement.

Just MHO -
I wouldn't spend more than a few hundy MAX on bluetooth. I paid $200+ to get my software updated to add it when i got my car a couple years ago.. It was barely worth it for THAT.
I don't hardly use it at all. Its not the MOST eloquent sounding setup. Don't get me wrong, it works well but everyone says i sound like I'm talking to them from a hollow room and if i turn-it up above half-volume, they say they can hear themselves talking. I honestly don't really use it. It seems cool at the very first - but a bluetooth headset is WAY more useable and practical - especially for professionalism.
I'm sure there are guys with differing opinions on here...just thought I'd share that with you. And I'm actually the type to force myself to use something just because i'm a tech-geek and i STILL don't use it because it's just not as clear and comfortable for a conversation
Good luck with whatever you decide.
Cheers.
