Guys,
I just put new rear tires on, and the car feels very loose in the back. The tires are exactly the same size but I went with a more economical tire. Would this cause such a drastic (unsafe feeling at highway speeds) change? Or is it just new tires that need to get heated up? Please help as I realized this terrible feeling with my daughter in the back.
Thanks

Of course, but not sure exactly what you mean when you say more economical other than being cheaper. With you car having the sports suspension and if you went with a softer sidewall I imagine it would not feel right either. What exactly dud you put on the car?

Some tires are awful for a few hundred or even a couple of thousand miles. If the old tires wore very unevenly then it could be alignment issue but if they wore out but were evenly worn then it could be some tire wearing in is needed and nothing more.

Just like the post above. Just what do you mean by an economy tire. What brand and model did you have and what did you install.
Also, the first hundred miles you have to drive off the release agents that are present on the tires. These are slippery to release the tires from the mould.

I thought the same when I put brand new rears on my 545I also. Car felt skittish all over the road. I thought that the guy who installed them must have adjusted the alignment but the tires where put on by a BMW repair shop so they must know what they are doing. The car's rear end felt loose all over the road. I paid it no mind and after about 500 miles no loose feeling again.
