As far as I know, you have never claimed that the SMG's are faster than the Steps. As I recall, you have consistently been skeptical of the SMG's relative straight-line ability compared to the Step.
Hey Znod,

I think you may have mis-read my tone. I wasn't ragging on you .
I was just adding to the post the fact that although many (especially those who aren't familiar with SMG) think that SMG is going to be quicker by default may be missing an integral piece of the puzzle - the Launch.

On a side note, the other day I was pulling onto a highway from a dead stop. I had no intention of activating "Accelleration Assist" but for some reason the car decided it wanted to. I let off the throttle when I realized what was happenening. The "AA" mode was engaging (read: clutch dump) but for some reason, although I was able to stop the wheel-spin (yes - 1 wheel spin) I was able to proceed up the highway with the "AA" speed-shifting program.
Now if I can only figure out how to do that again - with the G-Timer on.

Just install a set of goodyear RSA standard tires on your car and you will get lots of wheelspin.
But, I want it with the tires I have--like I used to have.

Sorry Don, but until you get another 550 in your area and line up next to it, the #s don't mean squat. Find someone out there by you, go to a track and see what happens. Then report back. You just can't compare numbers unless you are running side by side.
So, I guess you think my numbers do mean squat. Regardless, at this point, they are all we have. So, they mean what we think they mean. Some think they may point in one way. Others think they may point in another. They don't prove anything, and remember they are in fun. But, also, racing one 545i against one 550i doesn't prove anything either, in general.

Hey Znod,

My guess if you modded the 550 step like your 545 it would be faster. That 30 more in hp and torque is gonna account for something.
CVT Benhogan
But, my car is not modded except wheels and tires and no spare--which gives it about the same weight as grogan545i's car--we think.

No, I didn't think you were ragging on me. But, I thought that someone may have implied that you think the SMG's necessarily are faster. So, I was just supporting what you said. And, do you have trouble, in general, getting the SMG to do what you want when you want? I am a little confused by your SMG story.

Oh come on guys. Just find a 550i and then come out with the results. It's clear as day that the 550i will be faster but not by very much. So stock 550i vs stock 545i = win for the 550i. Period. Stock 550i vs znod's super lightweight car = win for the 550i.

My car is not super lightweight; is weighs, as best we can determine, about the same as grogan545i's car--as I keep saying. As for the rest of your thoughts, since you don't attempt to refute my argument, I say .

Ahhh chill man. I was just joking.

About the rest of my thoughts well...i said this because i bealive it's innapropriate to measure 2 cars straight line abilities just by compraing numbers. And what numbers? Some from your own results and some from a mag. If you want to compare numbers find a similar 550i run the g meter on it and then compare numbers with your own runs in the 545i (runs made in the same day, in the same place, by the same driver, in similar if not identical cars). More appropriate is a drag race between the 2, done for more than once to get a conclusive result. Do that and then you'll see that you'll come to my words. The 550i wins every time. By how much....well that's a fact we need to see. Same was with the 545ivs535d discussion.

Where did you see this data--online? or what issue? As far as I know, RT has not tested the 550i.
