Everything needs to get coded on these things. When I had my headlight washers on my e46 I didn't like them because they would come on when you didn't want them to and spray all over the hood and leave water spots everywhere when otherwise your car is clean. However now that my e60 doesn't have them I kinda miss them because when snow is melting and it's mudding and wet out I can notice my hadloghts being dim due to the dirt on them.

BMW have a OEM retrofit kit for this and so there should be some EBA instruction too. Ask your dealer to check them and see if the EBA says that coding is required. The problem is that it doesn't spray everytime, probably once is every 5-6 times.

i was kind of making reference to adding a device that will spray unwanted crap all over your car. headlight washers are very utilitarian. that said, i am sure the mod itself wasnt too easy to do yourself.
Otherwise during daylight and your lights off your headlight washers don't spary water.. at least on my 2007 5.
