Hey everyone, i've had the car for a few months now and i love it
Everythings gone well except a few little things, but other than that it's a pleasure everytime i drive. This is a great forum and all you guys and gals are really helpful. Hopefully that can continue
here are my questions...
1) When i make left turns, i hear and feel (through the steering wheel) a soft muffled cracking noise. Kind of like the sound when you crack your knuckles. Any ideas?
2) In the manual is says that the exterior mirrors and winshield washer nosils are heated in key position 2(thats all it says). Does this mean that they're not heated when we're driving?
3) Is this normal? I know the green section is, it just rained here, but im worried about the other part in red. What's this section of the wheel called, and should i have it checked out?
Thanks,
Jack

From my experience:
1. Never heard of smth like this. You should have it checked if it persists.
2. I think they are heated when driving. At least the mirrors use some sort of senzor because obviusly they are not heated like all the time.
3. The red part doesn't look good. Maybe some rust drained from a particular spot on that part of the wheel. I dunno...try to clean it up with special rust remover but be carefull not to damage anything. If it's serious stuff then go to the dealer with attitude and make him change it.

1. Could be a upper strut bearing if it is a popping or slight knocking sound while making turns.
2. The mirrors and nozzles are always heated from what I am told by BMW service people.
3. Flash rust is usually a normal occurence. You should be able to clean that off with no issue. Obviously for aesthetic reasons, I might have it replaced if I were in your shoes.

It's kinda weird to think that those mirrors are like ALWAYS heated. Even when it's 30 degreees celsius outside? Or very hot? That's insane. I think that if the temperature doesn't drop to a specific level they are not heated.

AFAIK the mirrors and nozzles are only heated when your rear window heater is turned on. ![Unsure](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/unsure.gif)

1.) That doesnt sound normal. Get it checked.
2.) When you are driving the key is in position 2. You are in position 3 when cranking to start and then they key returns to position 2.![Wink](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/wink.gif)
3.) Dont think thats normal either. There have been complaints about that here before... try searching... I'll try and search a little later you if you cant find anything before I can get to it.
