Just wondering why a lot of members like to debadge their E60s. Looks cleaner I'm assuming, but just interested in getting opinions of those who have done it and why.

On a side note, I must be unable to read or something because I recall reading mods in members' sig and seeing "debagged", thinking they took out the airbags. I vividly remember thinking, "WTF, these guys are crazy!"

In Germany people debadge because understating is the flavor of the hour. Status is less dependent on income there so a 'clean' deck lid is considered attractive.

EDIT: (I do this a lot) In Berlin, where I spend a good deal of time, people often brag about how little they spend, quite to the contrary of the average SoCal conversation.

IMO a few people does it for a cleaner look however I think that most people do it because they have a lower model. Compare how many 525i you see debadged compare to how many m5's you see?

I debadged my 535I TT, because its looks cleaner, and leaves others guessing.

This topic pops up every now and then and I always think of our friend JDN who debadged his 545i.

Although there's a ton of them out there, here's a link to one of the earliest threads about debadging with posts from some of our veterans -- including JDN:

I had this conversation on an English forum.....

I have an E60 530i, and the salesman debadged it for me when I collected it 12 months ago.

I left it a few months and then added an '///M' badge for effect.

I then read the thread in the forum and everyones opinion was that this '///M' badge was naff, so it was duly removed. I then decided I wanted my 530i badge back on, as I was finding people sitting on my arse having a go, since the 530i badge went on, it's stopped pretty much!

My car isn't the quickest BM out there, but I find the 530i will take on most run of the mill everyday cars quite happily. Of course it will never beat the big performance stuff, but then I have an executive waft I comfort myself with!!

Anyway, I digress, the point being, like has already been said, I find most 5er's over here are debadged if they are are a 20d, which wouldn't really pull your skin back.....we don't get many 525i, or 535i, (if any) so most are 20d's, which gives me comfort when I pull along side one and put my tow down and leave them for dust! We don't see that many 550i's either to be fare.

I guess it is totally down to personal taste, I for one am happy to show my size!!!!!
