So, if you are not the original purchaser of the vehicle you're not allow to buy the extended warranty?
That is true for the BMW CPO extended warranty. You can buy aftermarket warranties.

Still under warranty here but I tend to keep cars for 3 years or so maximum so I'll
probably sell as soon as it's up or just before.

BMW's are expensive to fix but there are quite a few independent garages that have
alot of experience in BMWs (at least here) and I wouldn't worry too much.

Thanks to you and to Dirk for the replies. Incredible difference in price of parts!

p.s I like your avatar, Motorcity. I guess you could say you're "bimming" with pride?

No doubt, I was surprised to find an OEM part so cheap!
Thanks LOL...Everyone I know had given up on me and having any kids. After 12 years of marriage,
I finally decided to pull the trigger (glad it still works HA). Most thought that my 4 previous M3's
were my only children I'd ever have!

Hopefully this won't jinx me, but my '06 525i has 114,000 miles on it, I've been out of warranty since 50k with no out of pocket expenses except the transmission and rear fluid change, which I did at 100,000. I bought the extended maintenance to 100k but did not buy the extended warranty. I think the extended maintenance was a good buy, I did 3 oil changes and brake pads all 'round, spark plugs and I think a microfilter. If you are under 50k you may want to look into it, shop around, some shops discount it and you do not have to take your car to the dealer you bought the maintenance program through.

One thing is, I put 120 miles of highway driving on the car, 5 days per week. All easy miles, so I don't know if others will share my experience if your driving patterns are more stop and go.

Good luck all!
