You sound a lot like me - going to other states or half way across the country for a car..
I always enjoyed the E38, and with M parallels it still looks so classy. The 01 was the final year with some upgrades and is a good choice for sure. That's low miles too, I dealt with some which had near 200k and they were still going strong!

Glad to see I'm not the only one who doesn't like taking the big depreciation hit in the first two year of a car's life. Sounds like you really thought about your plan and made the right decision for you. Have fun with the new wheels.
You are definitely NOT the only one. I won't buy a new car anymore, my SRT Jeep was new and lost almost 50% of it's value in less than 2 years. Never again, I am perfectly fine with CPO.

Picked up the car in Miami last weekend...20 hour drive home. Blah.
But I'm elated with the car, as the car was truely flawless. I would give it a 9.5 on a 10 point scale...and I am VERY picky.
The "short wheel base" sport package has quite a lot more acceleration than the long wheel base car I used to own. Not as fast 0-60 as 550i (obviously) but plenty of torque and power from 30 mph to 120. And, I got 21.2 mpg on the 1080 mile trip home while averaging 78 mph. Not bad for a powerful V8.
I'm elated! Still have the e60, and drove it today, in fact. I would imagine that I will pick up a gorgeous CPO 550i in a few years, but for now, the 740i has my heart once again.
The car was so amazingly pristine inside, I couldnt believe it...
Anyhow, I will enjoy driving both cars until the e60 lease runs in late January, and I will definitely miss it after returning it. However, I do love the 740i quite a lot, and given the fact it was $51k less than the 2010 550i that I wanted, I'm very pleased as well.

To me, the 740i Sport and the 2003 540i Sport, both with the awesome M Parallel wheels, were two of the most beautiful sedans BMW has ever built. I still miss my 2003 E39 540i Sport.
Use it well and best of luck with that beauty.

That was part of the reason I almost bought a 2010 5 series. I tend to think the final model is often the pinnacle of a particular model's existence, and a 2010 e60 would sure be a great keeper.
Thanks for the kind words about my new wheels.

The new car looks fantastic, congrats. I (like many here) still LOVE the E38 and E39 - great designs and they still do not look dated. That is a perfect example.

Great job finding such a pristine 740i sport. Us E38 fans are jealous.
Now, put some Euro clear corners on it, and add a Strong Strut tower bar and you will be all set for a while.
By the way, I know you said it was Stratus gray ... but it looks like my old Anthracite gray in your photos. Either way - it's a great color with the beige interior.
Have fun with it !!!
