Just Bought My 545i!
After lurking on this forum for the last few months, I just got back from buying a new 545i for ED in late March. Many thanks to the countless members who provided the insight that led me to this decision. This is nearly double the money that I've spent on any other car. I test drove both the 530 and 545, but the 545 was just beyond words, as far as performance. Most members here seem to have the sport package, but that's where I've deviated from the pack. It was too harsh, and I didn't want to have to replace tires and hope for a satisfactory ride. I felt that the standard suspension was exactly what I wanted.
I bought the car at Passport BMW in Maryland, and the deal (and dealing) could not have been more pleasant or financially better. They confirmed that the new 530 and 525 in March will be MY06, while the 545 will remain MY05 until August.
In the past I've had two BMW Bavaria's, and a new 1974 2002tii.
Looking forward to exchanging experiences and impressions of this outstanding vehicle on this excellent forum.

Its simple. Drive it, and you will buy it.
BlueRocket: Congratulations!!! We have the exact same car except I don't have HUD and I'm jealous of your sat-radio prep. Please add your location to your profile. The continent-level is fine if you don't want to be any more specific. I experience awe everytime I am behind the wheel, and have been since my '00 540iA. Welcome.

Congrats! My first 850 miles have been awesome. I'd have to disagree with you about the sports package's being harsh with crummy tires. The ride is quiet, compliant, and responsive. But I'm used to a sporting character ride having driven cars with sporting suspensions for years.
Have fun with your ride.

Welcome aboard BlueRocket even though I'm pretty much still a noob here myself.
We also decided against the sport package even though I was quite frankly thoroughly impressed by it. This car will be driven in the snow so the all season tires were important to us. In addition we get some nasty potholes around here due to road abuse fron the snow removal equipment so more sidewalls isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Even without the sport package I'd guess your car probably still outhandles 90% of the cars on the road.
Many congrats on your new ride. We're hoping to pick ours up sometime next week!
