I have no idea why i was worried about this, I just had my car MOT'd and it passed with a couple of minor advisories to consider (front discs and a control arm). I was abit worried about getting it done mainly because my brother in law still doesnt have his car on the road since his turbo and engine blew because of the MOT.
My car is good for another 12 months, whooo hooo. I have to confess though, my feet are itching abit despite all the money i have spent on it. I am toying with getting a Z4? I recon now is the best time to buy one prior to the summer + going back to a petrol also appeals (less to go wrong).

How does an MOT wreck the engine?

My brother in laws car was in for its MOT and when he got it back the turbo was blown + the engine wasn't running right, he believes that the emission test was done with the engine oil being to cool. Under the VOSA guide lines the test will rev the car up to its governor a maximum of six times, the tester is also supposed to check the oil temp before proceeding with the test. To be fair he has a 10 year old Audi 2.5Tdi but it has been properly maintained and the timing belt was recently replaced. He hasnt had his car since the summer of last year due to having to get a complete engine rebuild and new turbo.
I am no expert but when the emissions rev test was first introduced it angered alot of taxi drivers whose turbos were blowing and engines were being damaged by the test. It is total overkill in my opinion, I have never had my car up at the governor and it annoys me that i am forced to pay someone to do it once a year.

It's the same in Belgium, every year theres an amount of diesel cars that get their engine blown because of the emissions test. Every time i go there i hope this won't happen to mine, but ive been lucky. Normally when you get to an MOT your engine has to be warm and not cold.
