I already told VT this story, so i'll just post it. The other night on the way to dinner I'm driving down bolsa chica to the 405 onramp and I see some bright xenons getting bigger in my rear view mirror. At first I thought it was a G35 but then he pulls up to me on my right, paces me and then throttles it pass me.
I noticed that it was this black cadillac cts with black wheels that I always see driving around town. Some young dude, he had the long hair with the trucker hat, sort of like surfer trash look.
I was late to dinner as usual so I decided to come out of retirement by giving this guy a good run. We run into a yellow light and I knew for sure he wanted to play because he braked extra hard so we could line up. Of course I pushed all the "fun" buttons (DSC OFF)(SPORT) and just waited. I looked over at him and he was pretending to be on the phone or whatever, he was fumbling it around.
The light turns green and I didn't use AA but gave the throttle a hard stomp. Shifted through 2nd at redline and then third. I didn't take my eyes off the road at all to look over but I can hear him chirping to 2nd and then 3rd thinking WTF is this guy still doing next to me?
I finally pull away just after shifting from 3rd to 4th right before a curve on the road. I couldn't hear him anymore so I look into my rear view and see him very far behind. I guess either he gave up or the domestic couldnt handle the curve at that speed.
Later that night, a friend told me that it was a CTS-V, which I had know idea what the hell that was. I called VT the next day and he educated me about the specs.

Lucky you! Based on all accounts this was a run that you should've lost. You were the better driver.
Specs on the CTS-V:
3500 lb curb weight and 400 hp/ 395 ft-lb.

Haha you dont know what a CTS-V is?? Those things are quick... I drove one before and I actually like the speed... dont like the interior tho. Has a Vett engine in it! Watch out for those CTS-V's and STS-V's
Ya might have been a drivers race... All CTS-Vs are manuals so he had to have launched it and shifted correctly... with SMG and no AA you still had a very good lanuch if you just GET ON IT at a stand still...
Good job hollywood!

I dont believe it. i have seen vids of the CTS-V beating an e46 m3 smg from a roll. It shouldnt have a problem dispatching a 550i
The driver of the CTS-V obviously doesn't know how to launch correctly from a dig or had a bad launch.

Well if the Car & Driver times are correct
CTS-V 5.0
550i 5.0
then that explains the dead even 0-75. But then I had a feeling he gave up when we approached a pretty wicked curve at high speeds.

Hmmm... I'm beginning to wonder what is up with the CTS-V? Check out the times: http://www.dragtimes.com/Cadillac--C...ag-Racing.html
The 0 - 60 times for a stock CTS-V range from 4.7 to 5.1. You have to look at number #11 - #20. Numbers #1 - #10 are with modded CTS-Vs. I think #11 is modded as well.
Looks like the best time, 4.7, is with a real good launch by a good driver.
