June sales of 4,005 E60 units represents a 13.7% decrease from the total of 4,642 E39s sold in June of last year. YTD sales of 23,075 is off a mere 0.6% from the first half of 2003. Note that all three new E60 models had dealer incentives in place starting May 7, 2004 and ending June 30, 2004.

Last month I unveiled my new format for the monthly BMW sales figures. To see the full report click on the ?5 Series Sales? link below. You can use the Adobe ?bookmark? feature to see the past 3 years of 5 Series sales.

Ah. This and the pending Sept 2004 vehicle updates explain why I was able to get the price I did on my 530i (ordered June, in production).

Hi

Shouldn't the caption contain "in the U.S." ? There's life outside it too....

Didn't BMW do some serious incentives last spring on the E39? (2003) A colleague of mine got an E39 525 last year and she was raving about what a deal she got. I remember thinking it was a killer deal. Did BMW "dump" (forgive me) the final production units of the E39? I would think that would be a necessary evil just before introducing the new E60. Could that explain the 13% drop?

Dear God, please don't let them turn this forum into RF. Please do not start the endless flame wars. The report is VERY skewed since it includes the '03 M5 and the '03 E39 wagon. Also the BMW X3 was not out. Remember there will always be cannibalization by the SUVs. SUVs are a major part of the US market and the new X3 was recently introduced. Heck if I would have known I could Ipod a X3, I might have bought one instead.

I would imagine it would be August since there is no sale until you sign on the dotted line. Anything else would be twisted, IMO.

redondoman: Don't worry about RF flame bait style here. Not gunna happen

Those RF guys are going to fun next month though! I was updating my XLS sheet and noticed something interesting. I believe June was the last month of the E39 production and BMW sold over 5300 E39's (up almost 2000 units over the year prior)! Never has BMW sold 5000+ of any 5 series ever! What that means is that June sales of the E60 are going to appear down, and down by alot, due to that hugely inflated number the prior year. RF'ers will have fun trying to figure that out.

I cant wait... I love reading the stuff there (sometimes) and replying (sometimes) too.

Kari:

There certainly is life outside the U.S. Next month I will add "U.S." to the captions on all my reports.
