July was a tough month for the E60 as sales plummeted 45% from the same month last year. Year-to-date sales had only been down 10% thru June, so this is a dramatic turn, and it looks like the new E-Class as well as the Hyundai Genesis are taking a toll. The new MB sold 4,623 units to the 5er's 2,486. Ouch. And the Genesis is nipping on our heels with 2,015 sales.

What's Hot
Jeep Patriot (+134% over July last year) ... we almost bought one in July but got a used Grand Cherokee instead
Ford Escape (+94%)
Ford Fusion (+66%)
Ford Flex (+65)
Pontiac G8 (+63%)
Audi A5 (+38%)
VW Jetta (+31%)
Prius (+30%)

What's Not
Hummer H2 -(73%)
Saab 9-5 (-73%)
BMW X3 -(-71%)
Porsche Boxter & Cayman (-69% & -66%)
Cadillac CTS (-55%)
Corvette (-48%)

The last stand of the American auto industry.

next july's sales compared to this years sales will look like -325%

pathetic. i hope nobody makes payments on these cars and the bank is stuck with shitty vehicles that are worth less then half of what they are worth, and the government is stuck with enormous debt.

of course i dont REALLY hope for this, but i do like to say "i told you so"

What is -325%

Do the math [example]

Sales in period a 1000 units

Sales in period b will be -325% of period a = -3250 units

Am I doing something wrong? Is this Obamanomics?

Meh the statistics don't say much. Just means a Jeep Patriot has some better incentives this July than last. Doesn't mean it still isn't getting outsold by CRV, RAV-4 and all the other Japanese competitors (I assume).

My thought exactly. 134% increase could mean on average they sold 1 Patriot per dealer last year and then sold 2.34 cars/dealer this year. And everybody else sold over 100+ cars the same year. That doesn't say much if you look at the real numbers behind the %s.

Cash 4 Clunkers is a huge mistake. You're just saddling the already-strapped consumer with more debt they normally didn't want to take on. Congratulations on contributing more to our TWO lost decades that are yet to come. Hooray for Obummer.

i actually like the idea of cash for clunkers
you can save 4500 dollars on most of the bmw three series that sell below 45000 dollars
i would love to get a 335i or 335d if i have a spare crappy mini van

Well that's just it. How many people riding around in clunkers are in a position to buy a new BMW? My guess is, not many or any.
