This July BMW Group vehicle sales totaled 23,611 units which was a 12.0% decrease from the 26,840 sold last July. The YTD sales total of 180,857 for the first 7 months of 2006 was up 5.3% from the 171,683 sold during the same period of 2005. The YTD result is based primarily on sales increases for the 3, 5, and 7 Series.

Sales of the X Series decreased 31.5% this month while car sales were down 6.1% when compared to last July.

Sales of the BMW brand were down 13.4% this month when measured against last July.

Mercedes Benz sales of 21,591 units in July was a 3.8% increase when compared to the total of 20,791 sold last July. YTD 2006 sales for MB are also up some 14.3%. MB trucks were up 62.3% in July and 91.0% YTD when compared to the 7 month period of last year. This improvement in MB truck sales is due to the introduction of the R Class and GL Class which were not available last July.

Lexus sales totaled 26,959 units this July, up 1.5% over the 26,562 sold last July. YTD sales for the 7 months of 2006 were also up 5.4%.

Please note that I report only United States sales data.

Thanks Fred,

July looked pretty slow all over the place, but BMW especially hard hit compared to Lexus and MB.

Interesting - it's the e60 and the x3 / x5 that seem low compared to last year - wonder if people are hanging back because of the engine changes affecting the e90 right now?

Anyway YTD is up on last year so I don't think they'll be worried.

Both Mercedes and Lexus have upped their game since BMW redesigned the 3,5,7. I hate to admit but I would by the S550 over the 750 right now as well as the new LS460 from Lexus. Technology wise they are better cars. The 5 is still the market leader but it has some kinks in its armor. 3 series is still the bread and butter for BMW. X series SUVs are way out dated and cannot compete with Lexus, Mercedes and Land Rover.

Land Rover are on a bit of a roll at the moment both the Range Rover Sport & Discovery III are selling well in the US & Globally and from this fall they will introduce a new Freelander II which early car mag. reports say is the new class leader. They are also finally improving on the JD Powers quality report (not before time) driven by these new vehicles. For all Fords issues they have certainly improved the propects for LR.

I now of at least 2 people that wanted and e60 and ended up buying an e90. I think the e90 hurts the e60 sales.
