Is it just me or is anyone else annoyed at the fact that the 2005 three series will have 255hp and most likely will cost less than my 225hp very expensive 530i. I can just see the kid pulling up next to me at the light in his 3 series and going, "hey, wanna race me so I kick your arse in your more expensive but slower 5er." AAArgh!!!

But in my bigger, comfortable 5, I look for excuses to go _slower_ and take more time to get where I am going. Let him rush to get home. I want to drive more.

Progress... next year's toys are always better than last year's.

the new 2006 E90 330i will have the new 3.0 R6, and the E60 530i will get the new engine as of April builds for mY05s

So you're only interested in cost vs. speed?

I can pull up to a 745 and blow him away with my 545. Do you think he's pissed because I paid less?

If all you're interested in is horsepower/speed, you should have gotten the 3 (or maybe something like a Subaru WRX).

No Rudy, not just speed vs cost. I am just a bit tweaked that my younger less expensive sibling has an edge up on my baby, after all my horsepower should match my ride. Anyway, easy for you to say since you have 325 ponies gurgling under your bonnet.

Gotcha. No matter what, the three series with the six cylinder engine will be faster than the five series with the same engine.

As far as a newer design benefitting from newer versions of engines, etc., it's really just a game of leap-frog. You have to jump in when you're ready but always know that something better is coming around the bend...

Techincally, his car will be 1 yr "newer".

Also, due to weight difference, you'd lose vs. the current model 330 anyways.

Believe me when I tell you that you won't be get your doors blown away by the new R6 engine. Samething happened 5 years ago when 528 was replaced by 530. The 3.0 Liter engine was never able to "blow-away" the 528.

This HP thing is more of a marketing thing and a "pissin'" contest for auto manufactures than for pratical purpose. Case in point, the E60 545 w/ the higher HP rating and lighter alumn structure has yet to "Blow away" let alone "walk away" the old E39 540. So lighten up!

cheers,

beewang
