Jerking /Stutter when taking off or idle
#1
I noticed the other day when I was in the mall parking lot that was heavy with traffic. I was behind alot of cars that were moving very slowly so I took my foot off the gas and just let the car drift forward with flow of moving traffic. Then it began to jerk in a back and forth motion. Not violently, but enough to have me concerned. I have an 05 545 with about 72k miles

That sounds like a really bad transmission problem and I would have it taken to a dealer ASAP if this doesn't work:
Try this step:
1) Turn your car into the ON position. (Not just radio but the 2nd "on" position that enables fans, dash, etc.
2) Hold down the gas pedal into the kickdown position for 25 seconds. You may or may not hear a small reset sound from the trans going back to stock settings.
3) Release the gas pedal.
4) Turn the car on and drive.
5) Notice if the problem went away! =p
This trick supposedly resets the transmission to default factory settings. Our trans is quite smart and learns your driving habits and shifts differently after a time. Doing this step might fix your problem. Drive a while and see.

Thanks for the response. Quick question though. When you say "kickdown" do you mean all the way to the floor?

yeah, youll feel the pedal hit a point of resitance, continue the push down and it will press about another 1/2 inch to the floor. i think its the overdrive, not sure

yes. Kickdown is a feature built in to all 5 series though. Its when you push the pedal down and feel a click and push further down to the floor. The click sets your engine to rev past 4000-4500 RPMs and will downshift you on an AT also for max power / throttle.
