I had some minor nagging software-related issues that needed some attention so I wanted a software update with my second oil change. I've had v18 for a while. It's generally been pretty good, but what I really wanted was the MP3 update so I had to have some convincing reasons to ask for the SW update! Fortunately I got no pushback from my dealer when I requested the SW update, but was told my car didn't qualify for the MP3 update (10/04 build date). I told them to please "Just do it" - that many people with a car the age of mine had successfully upgraded to MP3. They didn't argue, and said they'd request that module when they reprogrammed the car.
I got the car back today with v21.02, and voila! - mp3 playback works great! No fuss, no muss. It played the CD I burned from iTunes without a problem. All 100+ songs - yay! And although my Monster FM modulator worked great with my ipod, playing from the CD has better sound quality than when transmitted through the modulator.
As an added bonus, I have a Samsung i730 with Windows Mobile 2003 and have been biting my tongue for months because I've had the consistent WM2003/BMW problem of the phone/car only holding a call for 30 seconds (if that long). I had thought the concensus was that the problem was with my phone and I needed to wait for the WM5 update.
But with the new v21.02 SW I decided to pair my phone with my car again to see what would happen. I had no expectations about success, but ... drum role please ... it works perfectly. No problems initiating or receiving calls nor problems holding the call for long periods. At this point BT seems to work perfectly. Fun....
