January 2006 5 Series Sales Report

Sales of 4,681 5 Series this month represents a 42.8% increase over the 3,278 units sold in January, 2005.

By way of comparison sales of the Mercedes-Benz E Class totaled 2,465 units this month; down 9.5% when compared to January, 2005.

Please note that I report only United States sales data.

M-B deserves all the sales it has! If the E-Class had been reliable people like me would have never moved to BMW or any other marque. Fact is the first three years the current E-Class was on sale the cars produced were so unreliable and the service to correct then so bad that loyal M-B customers lost faith. The increase in sales to BMW are not because the car is better equipped, yes it drives better, but because M-B got it so very wrong. In many ways the BMW 5 is flawed by comparrison, however reliability is so very important. having to ask key customers with golf clubs in the trunk to walk to the street to get a cab because for the third time your car will not start in a month is an experiance you dont forget.

The x-drive share in the US is clearly higher than in EU. In January 38.2% of US E60 sales were AWD. Interesting...
