On my 535 I've had no problems with the cruise control lines/bars on the speedometer. And I don't have the active CC.
Ok so they still have active white bars for the CC... in that case I see no benefit, cost wise really to BMW to remove the active white bars for one side of the instrument cluster and not the other. Prob cost them more money to change the production process / procedure for one tiny part like that.

YES have you been in the SW world... doesnt sound like you have.
This is potentially NOTHING to do with software. Just traditional electronics.
It could be achieved by a thermocouple and some springs.
And again, if you're saying that any experienced e60 (test) driver driving the car wouldn't notice a stuck temperature gauge (if it were meant to move), then you're simply wrong.

I got my first E61 a few weeks ago. I did know about the white bars in the tachometer disappearing when the engine reaches working temperature. But I can't say that I have noticed it, so I don't think I have that function. I will check this out.
Someone asked about the cruise control on the LCI. When I engage it, a green-yellow marker comes traveling from the low left up to the speed I set. If I cancel the speed, the marker becomes red. If I cancel again, the red marker disappears immediately. I don't see it traveling back to the lower left of the dial.

From my memory, I think it was just a white mark pre-LCI.
I checked my LCI 525i instruction book. They have left away everything about moving white bars. It's only mentioned " avoid revving engine to the white bar area and never rev it to the red area" -So I think it's not a bug but left away by meaning.
Greetings,

Bars on the tachometer in those two LCI 520d behave differently. In my 520d from 2006 bars start at about 4000 rpm on engine cold and then moves bar by bar up to approximately 4600rpm after warming. I own the car for 2.5 months, I have not noticed movings bars before. I have noticed it a week after servicing the car and software upgrade. So my conclusion is that even in LCI this feature exists but depends on the software version.

Given that I have the same engine you have, it seems logical that it should also start at 4000 rpm when cold.
However, the white bars do not move and start at 4550 rpm.
I better not rev to that number when driving off...
I'll start a poll

Possibly before many on here were born. In those days it was the Computer Industry rather than the "Software World".

Like you said... way back when... now a days everything is done with IC and SW. you really think bmw put a vacuum tube in the E60 to suck the white bars up?
And reading the other posts saying they even IMPROVED the CC bars to be nice and colorful you think they took away even simpler moving white bars to save money to make colorful disappearing CC bars? If so... alright fine whatevers...
